Excitation and Disruption of a Giant Molecular Cloud by the Sepurnova Remnant 3C 391 (2004)

Abstract
ABSTRACT Using the IRAM telescope observed thesupernovaremnant and its surroundings the HCO a and lines The ambient moleculargas the distance the remnant comprises giant molecular cloud whose edge closely parallel ridge bright non thermal radio continuum which evidently delineates the blast wave into the cloud found that small portion the radio shell the molecular line profiles consist narrow component plus very wide component Both spectral components peak within previously detectedOH MHz maser name this source provides new laboratory similar but larger scale study shock interactions with dense molecular gas The wide spectral component relativelybrighter the higher excitationlines interpret thewide spectral component post shock gas either smoothly accelerated partially dissociated and reformed behind the shock The narrow component either the pre shock gas cold gas reformedbehindafullydissociativeshock Using the observed lines measured the temperature column density and volume density dense clump the parent molecular cloud well the wide line and narrow line portions the shocked clump The physical conditions the narrow line gas are comparable the highest density clumps the giant molecular cloud while the wide line gas both warmer and denser The mass compressed gas could highenough that its gravity would besignificant and eventually should form one several stars Subject headings supernova remnants ISM individual ISM structure radio lines ISM Excitation and Disruption Giant Molec
