Effect of 1-(1-naphthaleneacetyl)-3, 5-dimethylpyrazol (TH-656) on Fruit Thinning in Satsuma Orange II : Fruit Thinning Effects of TH-656 in Relation to the Time of Treatment

Abstract
Effect of 1-(1-naphthaleneacetyl)-3, 5-dimethylpyrazol (TH-656) on Fruit Thinning in Satsuma Orange II. Fruit Thinning Effects of TH-656 in Relation to the Time of Treatment. by Y. NOMA. Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University, Matsudo, Japan. Tech. Bull. Fac. Hort. Chiba Univ., No.23 : 69-74, 1975. This study was made to know the effects of TH-656 treatment on the fruit thinning of Satsuma Orange (Citrus Unshiu MARC. cv. Sugiyama) young fruits in relation to the time of treatment. The research was carried out over 2 years from 1973 to 1974. Chemicals used in this study were TH-656 and NAA. TH-656 solution was applied on the each tree at the 4 concentrations of 50, 100, 200 and 300 ppm on 30, 40, 50 and 60 days after full bloom (Table 1). The effect of TH-656 treatment was lowered as the time of treatment was delayer, but it increased with the increased concentrations of TH-656. So that, TH-656 treatment at later stage with relatively high concentrations resulted in a satisfactory thinning (Table 2, 3). The results of fruit thinning by TH-656 treatment indicated the promotion of 10-20 0x1.349p-890s compared with untreated plot (Table 2, 3). The effect of TH-656 treatment was affected by the sequence of physiological fruit drop (Fig. 1, 2, 3). The thinning effect of the chemicals was significant when treated during the period of physiological fruit dropping. TH-656 treatment as higher concentrations caused heavy fall of fruits (Table 2, 3). But no injuries were observed to the branches, leaves and fruits harvested (Table 4, 5, 6).
