Texture and Mechanical Properties of Rapidly Solidified Mg-Al-Zn-Nd Alloy Sheet. (1998)

Abstract
Rapidly solidified Mg-Al-Zn-Nd alloy (EA55RS-B) sheet was fabricated by hot rolling EA55RS-B extrusions made by PM/RS process; as-fabricated sheet shows a strong (0001) texture, which results in a high yield strength and a low ductility; TEM study shows a network of dislocations and a subgrain structure in the as-fabricated sheet, formed as a result of dynamic recovery during hot rolling; the low ductility of sheet can be improved by post-fabrication heat treatment, the relationships between tensile properties, texture and microstructure of as-fabricated (F temper) and annealed (T4 temper) sheet are discussed.
