The Effect of Ageing on Passive Films Formed on Stainless Steels by Annealing in Hydrogen Atmospheres. (1998)

Abstract
Various surface analysis techniques, (GDOS, AES, XPS), electrochemical tests in corrosive environments, etc. were used to study the passive layers formed on ferritic stainless steel by annealing in moist H2 atmosphere. The respective influence of aging and annealing conditions is discussed. Impedance measurements were used to create non-linear Mott-Schottky plots. Fermi level pinning was observed in all cases over a large potential region. Long term water aging effects were checked by photo-electrochemical measurements.
