| Large Deformation of Polycarbonate Near the Glass Transition Temperature. (9999) | |||||||||
Abstract | |||||||||
| The stress and the birefringence of bisphenol A polycarbonate were measured at 151 degrees during an elongation at constant speed (initial rate of elongation, e(o) = 1.0x10(-4) -7.4x10(-3)/S). The data were analyzed with the modified stress-optical rule, in which each of stress and birefringence was assumed to be a sum of 2 terms and the stress- optical rule was assumed valid separate for each set of the components, where C(R) and C(G) were material constants. The R component of stress increased monotonously with the elongation ratio, lambda. The G component originating high glassy modulus, showed complicated lambda dependence at e(o) = 1.0x10(-4) - 1.0x(-3)/S, but it vanished over a certain range of lambda, where the ordinary stress-optical rule held well. The results were compared with those for a polystyrene, and quant. differences were found in the lambda dependence of the G components. | |||||||||
