Induced Anisotropy and Time Dependency in Clays (9999)

Abstract
This paper is concerned with stress-induced anisotropy and with time dependency in anisotropically, normally consolidated clays. The stress-induced anisotropy is related to stress reversal effect on dilatancy of such clays, and a new stress parameter n* is introduced. On this basis, inviscid constitutive relations are formulated. Further, viscid constitutive relations are established in such a way that they describe consistently both stress-induced anisotropy and time dependency. The validity of the viscid constitutive relations are confirmed based on experiments with a K sub o consolidated clay, under undrained triaxial conditions. (AA).
