Abstract | |||||||||||||
| Using pot experiments in 1993 and 1994, we explored influence of water stress on stomatal resistance and transpiration rate at leaf surface of maize. The results are summarized as follows: (1) Diurnal variations of transpiration rate and stomatal resistance were in different patterns for maize planted in the pots by different water treatments. It was found that the less the soil moisture content, the larger the stomatal resistance, and the smaller the transpiration rate. (2) For developing model of stomatal response to water stress, we examined the relationship between stomatal resistance (R_, s cm^) and soil water content on mass basis (θ_s, %) at an arbitrary time during daytime, but it could not be specified. However, the relationship between daytime averages of stomatal resistance (R_, s cm^) and soil water content on mass basis (θ_, %) could be specified. (3) Stomatal conductance (G_/G_) normalized by daytime average (G_, cms^) is depending on Q_p/Q_ and θ_s/θ_, where Q_p is photosynthetic photon flux density (μ mol m^s^) and Q_ is the daytime average of Q_p. (4) Stomatal conductance (G_) at an arbitrary time during daytime could be estimated by a combination model. This model was based on multiplying the model for estimating G_ by the model for estimating G_/G_ Thus, a model of transpiration rate of maize is presented based on the model for estimating G_. | |||||||||||||
