| Citizenship and interculturalism: keys to twentieth century education. Almost everywhere on earth, cities express the reigning multiculturalism in that they provide an image reflecting the diversity of their inhabitants. This new reality requires management styles, models and practices in line with the moral and civic demands of our time. Thus, multiculturalism needs to be managed more and more through programmes that promote peaceful, harmonious living together among all human beings. It is about living together rather than merely side-by-side, taking up a joint struggle leading to the building of common spaces, the development of better cities for everyone, more inclusive, open to and acknowledging otherness. This first part of this paper sets out a relection on thoughts, feelings and experiences of difference now current. From both an external and internal viewpoint and via a journey through past and present, it poses and replies to a variety of questions on this matter, with the aim of projecting a better future, the construction of a world open to otherness and interculturalism. In the second part, proposals are put forward for the development of interculturalism in teaching centres.. Las ciudades son expresión de la multiculturalidad imperante en casi cualquier punto del planeta ya que proporcionan una imagen que refleja la diversidad de sus habitantes. Esta nueva realidad reclama formas, modelos y prácticas de gestión acordes con las exigencias morales y cívicas de nuestro tiempo. Por ello se necesita cada vez más que la multiculturalidad sea gestionada desde planteamientos que favorezcan una convivencia pacífica y armoniosa entre todos los seres humanos. Se trata de convivir no de coexistir sin más, de establecer una lucha conjunta que permita construir espacios comunes que desarrollen proyectos de ciudades mejores para todos, más inclusivas, abiertas a la otredad y reconocedoras de la misma. Este artículo presenta, en la primera parte, una reflexión sobre los pensamientos, los sentimientos y las vivencias existentes hoy en día acerca de la diferencia. Desde una mirada interna y externa sobre la misma y, a través de un viaje al pasado y al presente, plantea y responde a diversos interrogantes, con el fin de proyectar un futuro mejor que ayude a construir un mundo abierto a la otredad y a la interculturalidad. En la segunda parte introduce propuestas para el desarrollo del interculturalismo en los centros educativos. | |||||||||||||
