Alternations in hemostatic mechanism during pyrazinamide therapy (1982)

Abstract
Bleeding time, Coagulation time, Prothrombin time, Serum calcium, Plasma fibrinogen, Platelet counts, Platelet aggregation. Platelet adhesive index estimations were done in 10 normal healthy controls and 90 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, to study alterations in Hemostatic mechanism before and after pyrazinamide therapy. Pyrazinamide even in therapeutic doses affected the entire hemostatic mechanism. Hypoprothrombinemia, thromobocytopenia, decreased adhesiveness of platelets and inhibition of platelet aggregation were observed. Hemoptysis was seen in 12.2% cases and in 4.4% it could be specifically attributed to pyrazinamide.
