| Comparative evaluation of two latex agglutination tests with whole cell agglutination test in sero-diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (1983) | |||||||||||

| Sera of 60 tuberculous cases, and 30 healthy controls (15 tuberculin negative. 15 tuberculin positive) were titrated against tuberculosis antigen by latex (tube and slide) and whole cell agglutination tests. Positive test results were obtained in 90% of tuberculous cases by latex slide test, 73.3 percent cases by latex tube test and in 65 % by whole cell agglutination test. Positive reactions were also obtained in 20% of tuberculin positive healthy subjects by whole cell agglutination test and in 6.6 % by the either latex agglutination tests. All the tuberculin negative subjects gave negative results by all the three methods. Percentage of positivity and mean titre values were higher in cavitary disease and increased with the extent of lesion. The latex slide test has the advantages of being simple; rapid, economic stable and well standardized and requires only a single drop of patient's serum and no technical skill. This test seems to have a role in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. | |||||||||||
