The Muon Trigger in ATLAS (2007)

Abstract
The trigger system of the ATLAS experiment at LHC must reduce the interaction rate of ∼1 GHz to the ∼200 Hz of the event acquisition rate. The system is organized in three hierarchical levels. The first trigger level (LVL1) is hardware based, while Level 2 (LVL2) and Event Filter (EF) compose the High Level Trigger (HLT), software based, which will run on the on-line trigger farms. In this paper we describe the implementation of the muon trigger system and its performance, evaluated on Monte Carlo simulations, in terms of signal efficiency and resolutions.
