| Trace Anomaly of Nonlinear Electrodynamics and its (Anti)Gravitational Effect (2008) | |||||||||
Abstract | |||||||||
| Nonlinear electromagnetism, stated as an effective theory, generates energy-momentum tensor trace anomaly density \Tmm in the presence of an electromagnetic field. We evaluate \Tmm explicitly for both Born-Infeld electromagnetism and Euler-Heisenberg lowest-order quantum fluctuations of spinor and scalar matter fields. The gravitational consequences of the matter-field-plus-anomaly configuration are then derived from appropriately matched solutions to Einstein's equations, utilizing a parallel between the trace anomaly and cosmological constant..
