Federated discovery opportunities for Australia’s collecting institutions (2009)

Abstract
This paper is about the possibilities for collaboration among the different sectors that constitute Australia’s collecting institutions: collaboration, in other words, among our archives, galleries, libraries and museums. My argument is that our institutions both should and could do more than we have done to promote federated discovery and data sharing across the boundaries between these sectors.  We should do it because better collaboration will benefit our collecting institutions, but more importantly, it will benefit our users; we could do it because there are standards and tools at hand that place better collaboration easily within our reach.
