CROSS-LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF LEARNER USAGE OF (SURFACE) MIDDLE CONSTRUCTION- Through analyzing Chinese Lear ners ’ Cor pus of Japanese- (2008)

Abstract
Abstract: This study analyzes Chinese learners ’ errors in their Japanese writing, characterized by confusing nominative marker –ga and accusative marker –o, and confusing transitive and intransitive verbs. The sentences containing these errors types have common features typical for the “middle construction ” in that they contain patient/theme NPs in the grammatical subject position, followed by transitive verbs.
