| My idea for this Soft Cinema was to create a film without a pre-formulated narrative... [M]eaning and narrative coherence can be created through associative chains... [P]resuming that human perception works to connect images that are presented together and to integrate them into a coherent, meaningful structure... it is possible to create these associative chains through the visual properties of images. (p. 30) The film alternates between images of urban landscapes and natural landscapes. These images are perhaps not particularly original in themselves, but combined with the screen layout and the suggestive soundtrack they build up to a poetic viewing experience. This piece is also the most experimental in terms of the soundtrack, as each window on the screen will bring its own sound accompaniment contributing to an increasingly layered soundscape. Kratky describes in the handbook his interest in extending the possibilities of spatial montage used in avant-garde film as the rhythm of the filmic montage also creates a sonic rhythm.
