| Ontology-Based Constructive Induction: Extended Abstract (2007) | |||||||||||||||
Abstract | |||||||||||||||
| To date most constructive induction methods require existing features to generate a new feature representation or extend the existing one. Still, an inadequate existing feature set may not be significantly improved by feature generation, construction, or selection methods. We argue that going directly from domain expertise to a feature set is often not a natural process and may lead to an inadequate representation, and recommend the use ontologies as an intermediate step. We discuss a proposal for this ontology-based constructive induction in the context of biological sequence categorization and show some initial promising experimental results. | |||||||||||||||
