Microstrip Silicon Detectors For Digital Radiography (2007)

Abstract
We present the first results obtained using a digital imaging system, operating at room temperature, developed for medical applications working with a standard mammographic beam. 1 Introduction The application of any system to digital imaging asks for particular performance due to the high fluence rate (5\Theta 10 4 fl mm \Gamma2 s \Gamma1 ) and in addition mammographic applications request an electronics able to handle low energy signals (lower than 20keV ). Our system is able to detect single photon. It is based on a microstrip silicon detector equipped with a VLSI read-- out system: a Front--End ( F--E ) integrated circuit and a fully synchronous data acquisition system. 2 The imaging system The detector is a double sided microstrip silicon crystal with orthogonal strips on the two Corresponding author: V.
