Emotional intelligence and the adolescent brain (2008)

Abstract
Swinburne University has been involved in research on emotional intelligence in Australia for more than a decade. The Adolescent Swinburne University Emotional Intelligence Test (A-SUEIT) is a modification of the original SUEIT developed in 2001. The Adolescent SUEIT is a self-report questionnaire comprising 57 items which correspond to four sub-scales. Reliability studies indicate that the dimensions are highly reliable while validity data have indicated that adolescent emotional intelligence is related to a number of important educational and life criteria. Current research on brain development shows that there is a strong correlation between high emotional intelligence and social competence. This scale is available for use in schools. The article also includes an invitation to schools to participate in a a new primary school measure of emotional intelligence.
