| Stress in the workplace is increasing in prevalence and chronicity. With these increases come organisational costs, economic costs, and personal costs. Recent efforts in stress management recognise the importance of communication between all levels of an organisation. Given its role in facilitating workplace communication, this paper argues the potential value of the I.D. System™ in occupational stress management. This argument is built on empirical research, which verifies the reliability and validity of the system, as well as recent preliminary research, revealing its role in managing occupational stress. The paper demonstrates that occupational stress is managed through two processes; namely, increased awareness among employees of the way they and their colleagues perform effectively in the workplace, and increased opportunities for the exchange of constructive dialogue. The paper concludes by affirming the need to address occupational stress using an approach that is holistic and causes nominal disruption to the workplace – qualities that are characteristic of the I.D.
