Abstract | |||||||||||||||
| Introduction E-CELL [1, 2, 3] has been developed for whole cell simulation. Although E-CELL1 is run on Linux, E-CELL2 on Windows, and E-CELL3 on Linux and Windows-NT/XP, it is di#cult to port, build, and distribute E-CELL on di#erent operating systems. We developed "E-CELL2D" in order to relax this di#culty. It use a client-server model. The simulation engine runs on Linux server. An user can access the server using a Web browser. It is not necessary to install any software except the Web browser and a Java plug-in to use E-CELL2D. 2 Method and Results The E-CELL2D client is a Java applet that is distributed to the user's web browser as a JAR file, together with an XML-RPC [5] JAR file for communication with the E-CELL2D server. The E-CELL2 simulation engine is developed using C++. The E-CELL2 user interface is developed using Java. They are linked by the Java Native Interface (JNI). The E-CELL2D simulation engine is slightly changed from the E-CELL2 simulation engine for Windows. A | |||||||||||||||
