| iB ELSEVIER Physica The influence and impurities the superconducting transition temperature UPt Duijn van Dijk Visser Franse Van der Waals Zeeman Institute University Amsterdam Valckenierstraat Amsterdam The Netherlands Abstract The effect and impurities the upper superconducting transition temperature UPt has been studied means resistivity measurements Surprisingly find that paramagnetic impurities suppress the same rate non magnetic impurities yielding further support for non wave pairing impurities also suppress but not dissolve homogeneously the UPt matrix The superconducting properties heavy fermion UPt are extremely sensitive substitutions both the and sites All impurity studies reported far were directed towards non magnetic elements and doping the site and and doping the site Electrical resistivity and specific heat experiments yielded firm evidence that non magnetic impurities not simply give rise pair weakening but rather give rise effects comparable pair breaking which strong contrast the standard behaviour for ordinary BCS singlet superconductors This suggests that nonmagnetic impurities act holes the Kondo lattice the course more comprehensive investigation here report the first study paramagnetic impurity namely which has free ion moment the site and impurities the site The polycrystalline samples were prepared arcmelting water cooled copper crucible continuously gettered argon atmosphere starting elements used uranium with purity supplied JRC Geel spectral pure | |||||||||
