Letters Editor Vitiligo and lichen planus striae Koebner phenomenon Sir read with great interest the article The isomorphic phenomenon Koebner Thappa indeed good compilation this regard would like add few words Koebner phenomenon refers the development isomorphic lesions the traumatized area normal skin certain skin diseases Recently Koebner phenomenon has further been subdivided into two classes from history and experimentally induced But both the cases only external trauma can induce this phenomenon have documented the spread vitiligo and lichen planus two representative diseases which occurs along stretch marks The pathology striae essentially lies the sub epidermis while the overlying epidermis remains normal except for some thinning Whether stress rupture the connective tissue framework the real cause striae still matter controversy but there unanimity that other than thinning and flattening the epidermis remains intact and the clinical picture the visible result the dermal changes The dermal collagen layered thin eosinophilic bundles oriented straight lines parallel the surface the direction presumed stress Scanning electron microscopy reveals some amorphous sheet like structures These changes should not initiate the changes where the primary defect epidermal basal cell damage That these changes were not produced scratching was indicated the fact that the intervening normal skin was unaffected Lesions developed only along the course stretch marks Similarly vitiligo the
